Women’s Golf

Wow, what an event! The Women’s first annual, and yes it looks like it will be an annual, Glow Ball event was a smashing success!  Despite the poor weather, we actually had a waiting list! Now, that’s a first!  And the costumes, oh the costumes were nothing short of spectacular!  Many thanks to Dellwood Country Club for opening the Club and the staff for coming in on their day off so the ladies could have so much fun. And thank you to all the ladies for trying something new and coming out in full costumes to play golf in the dark at 39 degrees!

Many thanks to Wendy Benson for your time and efforts as an MWGA Board Member. Wendy just finished her Board term as the Events Director coordinating all their Association Days, Junior Clinics, and spring and fall meetings.

The Women’s Golf Group congratulates Olivia Lansing Herrick on being the MGA’s 2013 Women Player of the Year. Olivia won the MWPGA Four-Ball Championship (with partner Kristen Wagner) and finished runner-up twice, at the Minnesota Women’s State Match Play and the MWPGA Match Play championships. Olivia finished third at the MWPGA State Public Links Championship, fourth at the Minnesota Women’s State Open and tied for fifth at the Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Championship. She also qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, advancing to the round of 32 match play. This is Olivia’s second MGA Women’s Player of the Year honor. In addition, Olivia was one of three young women representing Minnesota in the USGA Women’s State Team Championship recently held in Ohio. Congratulations on the team’s 8th place finish.

We’ve enjoyed some nice fall golf this year and it’s been so interesting watching the course transform with the cart paths, sand traps, and new trees.  Each time out there’s something new to see.  We extend much admiration for all the hard work the Dellwood staff is putting in for the benefit of next spring and years to come.

The Women’s 2014 golf calendar committee met and submitted our calendar to the Club. Keep your eyes open for several new items next year while we enjoy our remodeled Clubhouse and new amenities during our events.  More to come in future articles as we must first get through the winter months and the snow. Have a great Thanksgiving!
