After a slow start, the Women’s Golf Group’s (WGG) season has gathered momentum and is now in full swing. The April showers did, indeed, bring May flowers and temperatures finally rose. Dellwood’s PGA Pro, Jay Norman, kicked-off the PM season opener with a Rules Clinic for 13 members on April 29th. Thanks so much, Jay!
The Traveling Team (TT) played at Town and Country Club on May 16th. Our team of Patti Brekke, Judy Kishel, Sandy Martin, Dori Martinez, Sue Ryan and Carol Schulte scored 142 Stableford Points, second only to our host, T & C’s 154 points. Highlight: Carol Schulte’s great playing garnered 40 points for the DCC Team! If you are interested in playing on the TT, please contact Chair, Dori Martinez. Next up: North Oaks on June 13th.
On May 22nd, DCC hosted the 13th annual Challenge. Sixty women, twenty each from Dellwood Country Club (DCC), White Bear Yacht Club (WBYC) and North Oaks Golf Club (NOGC) enjoyed a tasty breakfast and competitive golf at DCC followed by a delicious lunch at the WBYC. As usual, it was hotly contested with only 22 Stableford Points separating the first and third place teams. Despite our valiant efforts, we came up 5 points short of winning the coveted trophy. The results were: 1st Place: WBYC with 563 points, 2nd Place: DCC with 558 Points. 3rd Place: NOGC with 541 Points. Besides a club team game, there was also a players team game where a member from each club formed a team with an A, B and C. player. Prizes were awarded to the top five teams:
1st: Sandy Martin (DCC), Deb Duffy (WBYC), Kate Elfstrom (NOGC) with 100 points
2nd: Michelle Farrell (NOGC), Carol Schulte (DCC), Pam Nuffort (WBYC) with 98 points
3rd: Priscilla Brewster (WBYC), Jennie Michels (NOGC), Barb Countryman (DCC) with 97 points
4th: Deanna Conrad (NOGC), Cathy Poechmann (DCC), Laura Eldridge (WBYC) with 94 points
5th: Kitty Considine (DCC), Cathi Gunderson (WBYC), Dorothy Putnam (NOGC) with 92 points
Heartiest congratulations to all of the winners and many thanks to all of our players, who looked pretty spectacular in their Adidas Solar Blue team uniforms, for competing for DCC. Special thanks to Paula Chesley for again (!) chairing this event and overseeing every detail and to the Pro Shop staff, for making it all work so smoothly. Our guests from the other clubs were quite complimentary of the golf course, the helpful and courteous staffs in the Clubhouse and Pro Shop and of all of the amenities offered at DCC!
Looking Ahead…..
Chair, Patti Brekke, is recruiting players for the Tri Club Tournament scheduled for Wednesday (yes, that day is correct!), June 6th. Last year, was our first year of participation in this event with Stillwater Country Club and Mendakota Country Club, and we won at Stillwater! This year, we are assuming the hosting duties and hoping for a repeat. Please contact Patti if you have any questions and sign-up ASAP. A nominal fee will be charged for breakfast, lunch and prizes. Go Dellwood!
Known as “no stress golf with friends”, a 9-Hole Mini Guest Day (June 10th) and an 18-Hole Mini Guest Day (June 19th) are scheduled this month. Planned by the Pro Shop staff and DCC’s Catering Manager, Tracy McCarthy, these are two great opportunities to invite up to three guests, for each event, to play golf and stay for a meal after playing. See below for the details. The cost will be posted on ForeTees. Get out your contact lists now and start calling!
Scheduled for the end of the month, a WGG favorite, the Best Ball Tournament, will be our first championship to be played this year. Either pick a partner or ask the Pro Shop staff to pair you with another player for this 2-day, 36-Hole event. Please join in the fun of ham and egging and sign-up! This event is included in your WGG membership dues.
The pairings for Singles and Doubles Match Play were just emailed to all registered participants. The Pro Shop staff requests that all matches are played by the published deadlines.
