With the April showers behind us we can look forward to the beautiful May flowers. At this time last year the golf season was just beginning and here we are almost a month into the Minnesota golf season. With the entire buzz around Dellwood it is great to see everyone’s smiling faces and get our tournament schedule under way. With a busy tournament schedule, here are a few items that I would like to highlight.
Match Play
The signup deadline for all match play events is fast approaching. The deadline for Men’s singles net and singles scratch match play is May 11th. The deadline for Men’s doubles match play is May 12th. The deadline for Women’s Doubles Match play is May 30th and Women’s Match play is May 31st. Please do not forget to sign up. Here are a few items that we need to address about match play. The first and most important is that all matches need to be played by the deadline, there are no exceptions. If matches are not played by the deadline a coin flip the next day will determine the winner. The second item is scoring. All matches will be posted by the Pro staff and the scores will be posted under Tournament scores. If your match ends early you are not required to finish the remaining holes, but you will still have a score posted determined by your handicap.
Men’s Derby
We have a little change for the Men’s Derby this year. This is a unique event in which all men are automatically entered. Each player’s lowest five net scores shot in medal play events from the Memorial Tournament through August 16 will be used for qualifying. The top 9 qualifiers plus the defending Derby Champion are eligible for the season finale shoot-out held in August.
Scoring
Each month we will be sending out an email with un-posted rounds as we will be monitoring this closely. The last item is that you are not allowed to play the course earlier in the day on the day of the competition if the event is stroke play. This is Rule 7-1 in the USGA Rules Book.
Men’s Opener
The first major men’s event is fast approaching. Please sign up for the Men’s Opener by May 5th if you can play. We currently have 27 people signed up. The tournament is a 1pm start on May 6th with the format being 2 net best ball of the foursome. The pairings will be made by the Proshop.
Demo Day
Open to all Club members from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, May 14th.
