July – the height of summer and activities at our Club. Our junior sports kids are having a very successful season so far. The Junior PGA team has won both of their matches and also a scrimmage (beating WBYC, North Oaks and Midland Hills). The swim team has been collecting a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in their meets and the kids are having a lot of fun! And – have you heard what our Women’s City League team did this year? Finished fourth out of twenty-two area Clubs competing. Congratulations ladies!
This is also a month when our members are encouraged to give back to the community we serve and the employees who make our Club experience special. The Employee Scholarship Fund has had a profound impact on the lives of our employees. Scholarships have enabled our employees to complete their education and find jobs in careers they truly love (Alex Piasecki). Your donations have enabled employees to worry less and stay on track with their educations as most are working, going to school and funding their own education. And – our scholarship program has been a key contributor in retaining our best employees, the ones you enjoy seeing every day you are here. So, thank you for your contributions and be aware that your gift often brings tears to the eyes of our employees because they are so grateful and the impact is huge! Donations are accepted through July 15th and scholarships will be awarded on Employee Appreciation Day, August 5th.
Our Club has also chosen to support the Kate P. Smith Foundation as our way of giving back to the community that we serve. The Fund provides support to local families battling cancer. The Foundation is administered by long time member, Bruce Smith and his daughters in memory of their mother Kate Smith (daughter of Jim and Carol Pfutzenreuter). The entry fee for the Big Break Golf Skills Challenge on July 24th goes to the Fund and all members and guests are welcome to participate! Additionally, a portion of the entry fee for the Acura Classic on July 25th goes to support the Fund. We are hoping to get at least 25 teams competing, with the winners getting a trip to Pinehurst Resorts to compete in the national Acura Classic Championship, September 9th to 13th.
Dellwood C.C. and Interlachen C.C. have been chosen to marshal the 15th hole for the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine. We need 17 volunteers to fill our roster and have a few spots still available. All members are eligible to volunteer. For more details call the office or contact one of our three captains: Sue Ryan, Connie Bossard or Bob Manning.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Club!
